We have been on lock down for so many weeks now and here in Wales we are still in lock down which was reviewed yesterday we are now aloud to see family as long as it is outdoors and we are two metres apart. It has been a hard one for us as Archie broke his femur on good Friday which resulted in emergency surgery and a five night stay in hospital bang smack in the middle of the Covid 19 peak.
Even before the leg incident me time was very rare. I am used to both children being in full time education every day so to have both home was a bit of a shell shock. Trying to work from home and meet deadlines and also keeping them happy, healthy and looking after their mental health too.
I must admit I find it hard to do all of the above, look after the house and deal with my own general anxiety which has now been massively amplified with Covid 19 and the fact Archie has hurt himself so bad and what he has been through at such a young age. I have actually fallen ill myself with stomach issues which have all been brought on my stress.
This has brought my need for me time to the front of my mind and an actual necessity for getting though the day/ lock down. I had to change things and fast as I was feeling super exhausted and anxious 24/7. So I have put a few things in place to help get that well needed me time.
A pamper and long bath at the end of every day
This is such a saving grace and has helped massively to relax at the end of a long day and also helps to prepare my body for a good nights sleep.I have bough myself some lovely relaxing bath salts and a bath caddy to watch my box set whilst relaxing.
Choosing a box set with loads of seasons to binge
I have found this a huge help as it really takes my mind off things and stops my mind wandering to intrusive thoughts and over thinking. I have subscribed to Hay U on amazon prime which is packed with reality TV shows! I have gone with the Real Housewives of New York to start off with which has worked wonders in the evening with taking my mind off things.
Having a hot cuppa alone in a different room in the afternoon
As much as I adore and love my children they can be really testing and after a day of home schooling, baking, activities etc by 4pm I am exhausted and crying out for some me time. So at this time of the day I tend to put a movie on for them or let them have some tablet time. I then grab a cuppa and sit in the back room in order to get some wind down/ me time – this also really helps to instill calm and helps my anxiety.
Keep your health in check
Just because it’s lock down and there is a pandemic going on it doesn’t mean you should neglect your health and not keep a check on it. It is so important to look after ourselves especially now more than ever. With some illnesses you do get some symptoms, others can have zero symptoms and you wouldn’t know you had them.
